This is it – the final sampling season!

Are you ready for the 2022 field season?

We were pleased with the success of our 2021 field season, which was the pilot year for Bryomonitoring Canada. Now, we are looking ahead to 2022! You can get ready for sampling by reserving your turf now!

Did you know that about 80% of Canada’s population lives within 150 km of the Canada-US border? It’s no surprise then that our map shows that most of our samples are so far received from within this band. We’d really like to see some green (or even red!) in those northern grids; if you know anyone living in or travelling to un-sampled grids, please let them know about Bryomonitoring Canada!

Nous sommes heureux du succès de notre saison de terrain 2021, qui était l’année pilote de Bryomonitoring Canada. Maintenant, nous nous tournons vers 2022 ! Vous pouvez vous préparer à l’échantillonnage en réservant votre grille dès maintenant !

Saviez-vous qu’environ 80 % de la population du Canada vit à moins de 150 km de la frontière canado-américaine ? Il n’est donc pas surprenant que notre carte montre que la plupart de nos échantillons proviennent jusqu’à présent de cette bande. Nous aimerions vraiment voir un peu de vert (ou même de rouge !) dans les grilles du nord ; si vous connaissez quelqu’un qui vit ou voyage dans des grilles non échantillonnées, faites-leur connaître Bryomonitoring Canada !

“Reserve Your Turf” is open!

After a long delay, our grid reservation system is now open! Our volunteers (you!) can sign up to sample moss in one of over 900 grid areas across the country. Your samples will be used to help researchers understand air pollution trends across Canada. If you will be out hiking, exploring, or doing field research this summer, please take a few minutes to collect samples for Bryomonitoring Canada! Please stay safe while you sample, and follow your province or territory’s current Covid-19 restrictions.

Covid-19 update: With continuted limited access to the laboratories due to Covid-19, we will not be accepting any samples or conducting a moss sampling field season in 2020. Our hope is that we can start accepting samples in spring 2021!
